Contracture of the hand is one of the common condition we encounter in day to day practice . In all contracted hand does not allow the full range of motion to perform  the normal activity. there can be limitation of flexion, extension, abduction, adduction in isolation or in combination. Many a times the contractures are in acceptable position for the activity of daily living. The treatment protocol should always consider age, sex, occupation of the patient before embarking on any surgical treatment. It is a demanding job for hand plastic surgeon as it requires extensive planning , meticulous execution & follow up with rigid splintage protocol

The cause can vary .The most common causes we see in day to day practice are

  • 1-Burn contracture which can be either thermal or electric burn.

  • 2-Post traumatic,

  • 3-Positional,

A-1 year old post burn contracture in 3 year

B- Immediately after scar excision & contracture release with full old boy thickness skin grafting.

C-1 year follow up with good opening & closing of fingers

Complete removal with its stalk
